2017 Performers

Blending faith-based lyrics with the musical styles of pop and country, the Amundruds continue to share a message of Hope in Jesus wherever they go. Excitement, Spiritual anointing, Christian family values and encouraging stories combined with great Gospel music make up a concert with The Amundruds. In the midst of our struggles and trials, it is reassuring to be reminded of the hope we have in Jesus.

Gary, Daryl, Sheri, Jessica & Willeke Amundrud joined by Glen & Linda Amundrud all share a common desire to touch lives with their music. Their ability to communicate through song has made them a favorite in Gospel music today with their appearances at music festivals and concerts across North America. The group's contagious energy spreads through entertaining performances bringing listeners their refreshing approach to well-known Gospel & CCM songs as well as their own new material that is distinctly The Amundruds.

Glen and Linda were married in 1974 and accepted the Lord shortly after. Their faith has been challenged from time to time. They were unable to have children, but they fasted and prayed. God answered prayer after eight years of longing, trusting and waiting for a miracle. They were blessed with two sons, Gary and Daryl, and two daughters, Lorilyn & Sheri. They all love the Lord and serve Him.

They have received recognitions from the Gospel Music Association (GMA Canada), the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA - Canada), the Inspirational Country Music Association (ICM - USA), and the SGN Diamond Awards (USA). Their latest CD, "Sweetest Sound" was named Country Album of the Year at this year's GMA Covenant Awards. Even more rewarding has been the opportunity to meet with people in towns and cities across Canada and the United States.

The Amundruds' goal is to be an encouragement to those they meet. For more than 10 years this family group from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan has reached audiences through their thought-provoking lyrics, innovative musical arrangements and life-changing testimonies giving all the glory to God.

Canada's Double Portion from North Battleford, Saskatchewan is a unique group in many ways. This 5 piece Gospel band is made up of entirely one family including parents Duncan & Debbie Hemmerling and 9 of their 10 children. Juggling homework and musical instruments is a daily routine for the Hemmerling children. They trade in riding the school bus for riding across the country in Canada's Double Portion tour bus for almost half the year.

2014 marks the 32nd year of ministry for this veteran group. Originating with Duncan and his three sisters, Canada's Double Portion has crisscrossed the continent from Newfoundland to British Columbia, Georgia to Alaska. Three decades of travel have provided unique experiences like singing on the Grand Ole' Opry stage, backing up Johnny& June Cash at a Cash/Rivers family reunion and performing with many of Gospel music's premier groups at North America's largest events. However, experience has taught this family that the smaller things in life are often the most rewarding!

Canada's Double Portion was nominated for Group of the Year in 2013 and their new CD "Days and Times" produced in Nashville by Gordon Mote received 3 nominations with Gospel Music Association Canada. Their song "Just in Time" was awarded the Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year.

Tours in 2014 are taking them to events like Southwest Gospel Fest in Phoenix, AZ, "Preacher in the Patch" events throughout the North Central U.S., Canadian Gospel Music Celebration in Red Deer, AB and concerts across the U.S. and Canada. They continue to see children's lives changed through their partnership with Compassion Int. and are heard on the radio through the 1/2 radio program Foursquare Gospel Tidings. When home, the bus wheels keep turning, as the oldest 3 sons travel with their own band Cities Under Fire and share with youth across Canada and the U.S..

Raised in a Christian home, The Pilkey Sisters have been performing for audiences since the ages of 5, 6, and 7. They began their humble career in early 2001, singing Southern Gospel Music in a White Rock Community Church that served meals on Sunday evenings to the less fortunate.

Known for their tightly-blended, angelic harmonies, The Pilkey Sisters have performed throughout the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland, singing at many church events, missions fundraisers, as well as a variety of corporate events. Most recently The Pilkey Sisters were showcased at the 2017 GMA Covenant Awards, where they were nominated as New Artist of the Year. They are also grateful to have had opportunities to open for Young Street Vocal Band, The Booth Brothers, The Ball Brothers, and are looking forward to returning to perform at the 2017 Canadian Gospel Music Celebration in Red Deer, Alberta.

After years of singing gospel music together, and through their own story of personal hardship with the sudden loss of their father in 2011, they have come to experience God's love and grace in a way that solidified for them that God's Word and His promises are true; Christ is our “Saviour” and our only “Hope” is in Him.  ".... Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell cannot keep God's love away." Romans 8:38

With an astounding and soaring blend of vocals, and a passion that shines through every word, The Pilkey Sisters' desire to deliver the gospel message through song, both ministering to the needs of others and bringing hope for an eternal future that far surpasses anything we could imagine.

Ken Overcast

Ken Overcast is the real deal. In this day and age of plastic throw away everything, to find someone that is really genuine is a treat indeed. While many in the performing arts tend towards honing an act that is saleable, Ken strives very diligently to just be himself. His music, writing, and public performances are characterized by a down home connection that is indeed rare. He is a third generation Montanan, and is truly making a mark on America's entertainment. Both Ken's recording and writing have been very prolific. Having written about half of the music he's recorded, there are currently eight CD's in his Bear Valley Records catalogue. Visions of several more recordings are in various stages of planning, with available time being the only constraint. His CD Montana Cowboy was named Cowboy CD of the Year by True West Magazine, and contains the song Montana Lullaby, co-written with Wylie Gustafson, which was selected as The Official Lullaby of the State of Montana in an act by the Montana Legislature. The most recent recording project, entitled Montana In My Soul, expounds upon Ken's love for the West and his home in particular.

His first book, Yesterday's Yarns, was published in 2003 and quickly went into several successive reprints. He has authored five popular books of short stories to date, with yet another scheduled for release in the fall of 2012. Ken's fourth book, Sittin' 'Round the Stove, Stories From the Real West, garnered the Will Rogers Medallion Award it the Fall of 2009, and the most recent title published is entitled Fables From the Far Far West. He's also the author of a popularly syndicated column entitled Meadow Muffins, and is the host of a nationally syndicated radio program, The Cowboy Show with Ken Overcast, which features both contemporary cowboy music and interviews, as well as a look back into the past with memories from a few old time cowboys.

Born into a ranching family, he was raised in northern Montana on a section of the Milk River known as "Paradise Valley". He literally grew up on a horse, and attended a rural school with three classmates. He and his wife Dawn were childhood sweethearts, and run a commercial cow/calf operation on Lodge Creek, as well as entertaining audiences all over the West. Their ranch is located within fifteen miles of where 100 years of both sides of their family have made their homes. Dawn's only complaint is that, "He is always running off somewhere to play that darned guitar, and leaving me home to do all the work." Ken has been teamed with Nashville Producer, Russ Ragsdale for many years, and together they have eight CD recordings under their belts. National recognition was just a matter of time. Besides a host of nominations, Ken was crowned the Western Music Association Yodeler of the Year, and was awarded the coveted Will Rogers Award by the Academy of Western Artists.

Soul Purpose originally began in 1987 with Sheldon, Jodi, Marlon (and Pam) singing together at church and community events. Marriage, school and careers, took us in different directions for a time. In 2003 God brought us back together again with the addition of Kitty and Tammy. Not only are we friends, but as God’s sense of humor would have it, we are actually all related through a great grandma. We enjoy singing at our church, local retirement homes, and for community and outreach events. It is our desire that as we lift our voices in praise, our music will minister to the hearts and souls of those who hear it. Our purpose is to bring glory to God alone.

Kitty Arndt, pianist for Soul Purpose, grew up on a dairy farm in Leduc, Alberta and has made her home in Springside, SK, since 1980. Along with her husband Eldon, she runs a grain farm west of Springside. Together they have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren whom they find themselves wanting to spend more time with. She enjoy all types of music; gospel being her favorite. It is a real joy for her to play the piano and sing with Soul Purpose as they lift up the name of our Lord Jesus.

Jodi Hansen lives and works on a cattle ranch located south of Springside, SK. She has been married for 22 years to her husband Jeff. Together they have a 14 year old son, Jace, who is going into grade 10 this fall. She has sung soprano with Soul Purpose for many years, and loves to sing with the group as she feels a connection to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when they praise Him.

Sheldon Fichtner was born and raised in Springside, SK and has been happily married for almost 25 years. He has two children, Dalton (21) and Abby (15). A self-employed home builder he has his own company called Creekside Acres Ltd. He is also an instructor with the Parkland College. Shedon has been singing tenor with Soul Purpose since he was 16. He loves being out on the water and enjoys playing hockey as well as other sports. He has a passion for Good Spirit Bible Camp. He currently reside north of Springside at Good Spirit Lake.

Marlon and Tammy Milbrandt live on the family farm east of Springside. They have been married for 18 years and have two lovely daughters, Nicole (9) and Jenna (8). Their family likes to play games, enjoy friendships, and travel and explore God’s amazing world. Marlon is the Regional Director of Building Services for the Sunrise Health Region, and dabbles in car sales in his spare time. Tammy has the privilege of being a home maker. Growing up in Caronport, Tammy has fond memories of summer days right here at Besant Park.
